Repeated violent acts meant to corner govt: Fakhrul
Staff Reporter :
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said the killing of Azizur Rahman Musabbir is part of a series of brutal incidents intended to place the government in a difficult position. In a condolence message, Fakhrul termed the murder of Musabbir—former general secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North Swechchhasebak Dal—as a calculated act by saboteurs seeking to create chaos in the country for political advantage.
“Following the downfall of the Awami autocratic ruling group through the student–public movement, destabilising forces have once again become active to plunge the country into disorder for their own benefit. The merciless killing of Musabbir is a clear example of this conspiracy,” he said.
Referring to the incident, Fakhrul said Musabbir was shot dead in what he described as a “brutal and inhuman” attack.
Noting the repeated occurrence of such crimes, the BNP leader urged firm action to rein in the perpetrators. “To restore democracy, protect voting rights, and ensure the safety of lives and property, people from all walks of life must stay united. Otherwise, collaborators of Awami fascism may resurface and threaten the nation’s very existence,” he warned.
Fakhrul also demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible and called for exemplary punishment to ensure justice. He offered prayers for the deceased and expressed his heartfelt condolences to Musabbir’s grieving family.
Azizur Rahman Musabbir, a former general secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North Swechchhasebak Dal, the BNP’s affiliated organisation, was shot dead by unidentified attackers near Bashundhara City Shopping Complex in Dhaka on January 7.
Another victim, Abu Sufian, a Jubo Dal activist and general secretary of the Tejgaon Thana Van Workers’ Union, was injured in the shooting.
The attack occurred around 8:40pm behind the shopping complex in the Tejturi Bazar area along the Kazipara–Green Road.
