JnUCSU polls: Lazy counting delaying result

The long-awaited Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JnUCSU) election has been completed in a festive atmosphere, although the counting of votes has faced a trouble because of technical error in vote counting machine.

The counting of votes for the JnUCSU elections is ongoing. According to the latest information, the Election Commission has officially announced the results of 32 out of a total of 39 centers so far.

This information was announced at around 9:00 pm on Wednesday when the results of the Islamic Studies Department were announced at the central control room of the JnUCSU elections.

In the results of 32 centers, Chatra Shibir-backed candidate Riazul Islam ensured a total of 3,883 votes for the VP post and his rival, AKM Rakib, a candidate from the Chhatra Dal-backed panel, received 3,423 votes.

Incidentally, the vote counting for the JnUCSU election was delayed for a long time due to a technical glitch. After that, the counting was started in both manual and machine methods, but the election officials could not complete the vote counting. The vote counting started again after 5 hours at around 1:45 am on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, according to information received from election-related sources, the presence of voters was noticeable in the hall and departments of the university. Especially in Nawab Faizunnesa Chowdhurani Hall, there was a huge turnout; where 964 students out of 1200 voters voted.

In the Faculty of Arts, 364 out of 479 voters voted in the Bengali Department and 360 out of 485 voters voted in the History Department and in the Islamic Studies Department, 292 out of 438 voters voted. In the Faculty of Business Education, 364 out of 488 voters voted in room 317 of the Accounting Department and 377 out of 475 voters voted in room 316. In the Marketing Department, 408 out of 602 voters and in the Finance Department, 394 out of 616 voters exercised their right to vote.

In the Faculty of Social Sciences, 329 out of 473 voters voted in the Sociology Department, 338 out of 469 voters voted in the Journalism department and 285 out of 464 voters voted in the Public Administration Department. In addition, 327 students voted in the Economics Department and 316 students voted in the Social Work Department. In the Philosophy department, 294 out of 444 voters voted.

The casting vote rate in the Science faculty and other departments was satisfactory. In the Mathematics department, 325 out of 525 voters voted, in the Chemistry Department 347 out of 535 voters, and in the Microbiology Department 144 out of 280 voters voted. In the Law Department, 430 out of 526 voters voted, and in the Law and Land Administration Department 320 out of 412 voters voted.

In the Drawing, Painting and Printmaking, Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts, 165 out of 290 voters voted, and 168 students in other departments of fine arts including psychology. In addition, 100 out of 169 voters voted in the Film and Television Department.

Election Commissioner Professor Dr. Mustafa Hasan said, “The results will be announced tonight after the counting of votes. The voting has been completed smoothly.”
