Tarique to embark on 4-day northern tour from Jan 11

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is scheduled to begin his first out-of-Dhaka tour since returning home, with a four-day visit to the country’s northern districts starting on January 11.

As per the finalized itinerary, he will depart Dhaka on January 11 and conclude the tour on January 14, covering nine districts across the northern region.

On the first day, January 11, Tarique Rahman will travel through Tangail, Sirajganj and Bogura, where he will spend the night. The following day, January 12, he is set to visit Rangpur, Dinajpur and Thakurgaon, staying overnight in Thakurgaon.

On January 13, he will proceed from Thakurgaon to Panchagarh, Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat before returning to Rangpur for the night. The tour will conclude on January 14, with his return to Dhaka via Rangpur and Gabtali in Bogura.

During the visit, the BNP Acting Chairman will pay homage at the graves of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani, Shaheed Abu Sayeed, late Taiyaba Majumder, as well as others who lost their lives during the July uprising and the prolonged democratic movement. He is also expected to take part in prayer programmes and meet injured July fighters along with the families of martyrs.

BNP sources said the district administrations and returning officers concerned have been officially notified of the programme. In a letter signed on Tuesday by ABM Abdus Sattar, private secretary to the BNP Acting Chairman, district commissioners and returning officers of Dhaka, Gazipur, Tangail, Sirajganj, Bogura, Gaibandha, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat and Kurigram were informed of the tour schedule.
The letter clarified that the visit would remain confined to religious and social engagements, including grave visits and prayer gatherings, and assured that the Election Commission’s code of conduct would be fully respected. The party also requested necessary security measures and administrative cooperation to facilitate the smooth execution of the programme.

Captain (retd) Ganiul Azam, Director (Coordination) of the BNP Acting Chairman’s security team, has been designated to oversee coordination for the tour.
