Elderly man’s finger numb after herbalist surgery

In Chouddagram, Cumilla, it has been reported that an old man’s finger is not moving after the operation of the herbal assistant for 3 thousand taka. On Monday, the victim, Saleh Ahmed, broke down in tears while seeking treatment at the emergency department of the Upazila Health Complex. He is a resident of Ghoshtal village in Chiora Union.
It is learned that herbal assistant Shrivas Kumar Sarkar has been providing minor surgeries and medical services to patients at the emergency department of the Upazila Health Complex for a long time. On December 7, Saleh Ahmed of Ghoshtal village went to the Upazila Health Complex for treatment after he developed a problem in his left finger. At that time, herbal assistant Shrivas Kumar Sarkar, who was in the emergency department, demanded 3 thousand taka for the treatment of the finger.
After Saleh Ahmed’s family agreed, Shrivas Kumar Sarkar operated on the finger vein, but there was no improvement even after almost a month. On the other hand, he cannot move a finger on his left hand. On Monday, January 4, old Saleh Ahmed broke down in tears after coming to the Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
His daughter Sharmin Sultana was present at the time.
Sharmin Sultana, daughter of the victim Saleh Ahmed, said, “We asked if you can do the operation. Srivas Kumar said you can, so we did the operation here. Now my father cannot move his finger. It seems that the finger has become useless for the rest of his life.”
Herbalist assistant Srivas Kumar Sarkar said, “I am on leave at home. I do not know anything about the operation.”
Upazila Health Officer Dr. Rashid Ahmed Chowdhury said, “There is a manpower shortage in the hospital’s emergency department. The matter will be investigated. After the investigation, measures will be taken to prevent Srivas Kumar Sarkar from the responsibility of the emergency department.”
