Staff Reporter :
The families of those who were killed and injured in last year’s Milestone School and College plane crash in Uttara will receive a total of Tk 10.2 crore in financial assistance, the government announced.
An inter-ministerial meeting chaired by the Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on December 2, 2025, decided on compensation for the victims’ families.
Representatives from the Ministries of Education, Finance, Health and Family Welfare, and the Air Force, were attended the meeting.
According to the decision, each family of the deceased will receive Tk 20 lakh, while each family of the injured will receive Tk 5 lakh. This amounts to Tk 7 crore for the deceased and Tk 3.2 crore for the injured, totaling Tk 10.2 crore.
On July 21, 2025, a Bangladesh Air Force training fighter jet suddenly crashed at the school in Diabari, claiming the lives of 35 people, including 28 students, three teachers, one caretaker, and three guardians. More than 58 others were injured, many critically, and treated in various hospitals. Official records from the school list 35 fatalities and 64 injuries.
Milestone School and College is a private institution under the Secondary and Higher Education Division. Typically, government budgets do not cover private institutions. However, considering the humanitarian impact on the young students and their families, a one-time special government grant will be provided.
The funds will be reallocated from existing government budget lines, including Tk 2.2 crore from the Secretariat’s “Research” fund and Tk 8 crore from the “Government Secondary Schools” allocation under the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education. Payments will be made directly to verified family bank accounts, and any unspent funds must be returned to the government treasury by June 30, 2026.
