‘100pc primary textbooks distributed’
Staff Reporter :
Primary and Mass Education Adviser Professor Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar yesterday said that all primary-level students across the country received their textbooks on the very first day of the new year.
He noted that it was possible to ensure the distribution of one hundred percent of textbooks to students of every government primary school in Bangladesh at the start of the academic year.
“The quality of the textbooks is undoubtedly better than in previous years,” the adviser said.
Professor Poddar made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the textbook distribution programme at Abul Bashar Government Primary School in Dhaka.
Addressing guardians present at the event, he said that a special guideline book for guardians is being prepared to enhance the overall quality of primary education and will be handed over to them soon.
Emphasising that quality primary education is indispensable, Dr Poddar said the fundamental objective of primary education is to make children literate.
“If children learn to read properly at the primary level, they will be able to acquire knowledge independently through reading later on. Ensuring inclusive development of primary education will have a positive impact on higher levels of education,” he added.
Director General of the Department of Primary Education Abu Noor Md Shamsuzzaman presided over the programme, while Secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Abu Taher Md Masud Rana and Vice Chancellor of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Dr Md Abdul Latif attended as special guests.
Students and their guardians were also present at the ceremony.
Later, the adviser took part in another textbook distribution programme at Nalanda High School at Chhayanaut Sanskriti Bhaban in the capital.
