Bangladesh’s remittance inflows hit record $32.8 billion in 2025

Business Report :

Bangladesh received a historic $32.8 billion in remittances in 2025, marking the highest annual inflow in the country’s history, according to data released by Bangladesh Bank on Thursday.

The figure represents a 22 percent increase compared to the previous year’s $26.88 billion, reflecting sustained contributions from the country’s large overseas workforce.

Remittances in December alone stood at $3.22 billion, posting a 22 percent year-on-year growth and marking the highest monthly inflow in the past nine months.

Analysts attribute the surge to a combination of rising earnings of expatriate workers, improved banking channels for inward remittances, and favourable exchange rate conditions.

Experts said the robust remittance growth is expected to strengthen Bangladesh’s foreign currency reserves, support domestic consumption, and contribute positively to the balance of payments.

Remittances have long been a critical source of household income, with millions of families relying on funds sent by relatives working abroad for daily expenses, education, and healthcare.

Bangladesh Bank officials noted that the government’s efforts to facilitate easy remittance transfers such as lowering transaction costs and expanding digital channels-have further encouraged the flow of funds through formal banking channels.

The record-breaking remittance figures are expected to provide a boost to the economy in 2026, particularly in sectors linked to household consumption.
