What Samantha said over NCP-Jamaat alliance

Staff Reporter:

Samantha Sharmin, Senior Joint Convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has said that she sees no justification for resigning from the party. She made the statement in a post on her Facebook page on Sunday.

Samantha Sharmin said that she learned from a press conference of Jamaat-e-Islami that NCP has officially formed an alliance with Jamaat. According to the statement made by the alliance spokesperson and the NCP convener on the day the Democratic Reform Alliance was launched, this was not supposed to happen. She added that one of the three parties—the State Reform Movement—has already mentioned a breach of agreement with them. It has also stated that NCP moved toward seat-sharing without formally informing them.

She further said that such a position, which undermines the initiative to build a third political force, is damaging the mainstream trajectory of the National Citizen Party. “I uphold and welcome all the statements NCP has made so far,” she said.

Regarding the party’s deviation from its core aspirations, Samantha Sharmin said that some individuals within the National Citizen Party deviated from the party’s original aspirations at 5:30 pm on December 28, 2025, in exchange for a handful of seats.

On the issue of resignation, she said, “I see no justification for resigning, since I subscribe to all the official narratives of NCP.”

She added that even if some individuals deviated, as a party the NCP remained on the correct path.
