5 Dhallywood movies in discussion in 2025

Entertainment Desk :

The year 2025 is coming to an end; the review of the entire year has begun, and Dhallywood is no exception. However, this year’s movie market was quite lively
compared to recent years. If we review the business accounts of the movies discussed last year, it can
be seen that the top popular movies have earned a total of around Tk 60 crores from the domestic market. Although film professionals claim that if there was a box office in the country, the figure could be even higher. However, not only in terms of income, the story, visuals, and characters of the movie have attracted a lot of viewers this time.
Now, let’s find out about the five movies those are in the news this year.
1. Borbaad
The most talked about movie of 2025 was ‘Borbaad’ starring megastar Shakib Khan. Directed by Mehedi Hasan Hridoy, this movie was awarded the ‘Best Movie of the Year’ title for its production style, use of advanced technology and unique story. Released on Eid-ul-Fitr, this movie with a budget of Tk 15 crores starred Kolkata’s Idhika Paul opposite Shakib. The performances of Jishu Sengupta as the villain and Shyam Bhattacharya as Shakib’s assistant have garnered wide appreciation from the audience. The estimated gross of the movie was around Tk 30 crores.
2. Jongli
The movie ‘Jongli’, which was released on Eid-ul-Fitr, has given a new lease of life to actor Siam Ahmed’s career. Directed by M Rahim, the movie has won the hearts of viewers of all ages due to its awareness message against child molestation and educational content. Siam was opposite Prarthana Fardin Dighi and Shobnom Bubly in the movie. According to the production company, it is one of the most successful movies of this year; its revenue was estimated at Tk 5 crores.
3. Utshob
The star-studded film ‘Utshob’, released on Eid-ul-Azha, was at the top of the audience’s list of favourites. Directed by Tanim Noor, the film is basically a family story that brings back the familiar emotions of the nineties. This star-studded film stars Afsana Mimi, Zahid Hasan, Jaya Ahsan, Aupee Karim, Chanchal Chowdhury and Sadia Ayman. Being a family genre, it did quite well in the theaters. The estimated earnings of the film were Tk 6 crores.
4. Taandob
One of the most anticipated movies of Eid-ul-Azha was Raihan Rafi’s ‘Taandob’. This was the director’s second work with Shakib Khan. Shakib’s ‘golden look’ and big casting in the movie attracted the audience a lot. Apart from Shakib, it also stars Jaya Ahsan, Sabila Nur, Afzal Hossain and Siam and Afran Nisho in cameo roles. Despite some commercial losses due to piracy, the movie was the center of discussion. Even then, the movie’s income stood at around Tk 10 crores.
5. Daagi
The movie ‘Daagi’, which was released on Eid-ul-Fitr, was in the news due to the presence of actor Afran Nisho. Since the release of the movie, its producer has been claiming it to be a ‘blockbuster hit’. Among the movies released at the beginning of the year, it was able to create extra excitement among the audience and its commercial promotion was also noticeable. The movie’s revenue was estimated at Tk 7 crores.
It is worth noting that, according to the Bangladesh Film Producers and Distributors Association, a total of 47 movies, including commercial and alternative genres, were released in 2025. Twelve movies were released during the two main festivals of the year, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Azha. However, the sad thing is that although almost half a hundred movies were released, the movies released during the rest of the year, except for the two Eids, did not see commercial success. Most of the movies struggled to raise their capital.
