Staff Reporter :
A Dhaka court has ordered the freezing of eight bank accounts belonging to the prime accused, Faisal Karim Masud, and his associates in the murder case of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman bin Hadi.
The order was issued by Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun, judge of the vacation bench of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court.
Confirming the development, Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki said the investigating officer of the case, Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Faisal Ahmed of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, submitted an application seeking suspension of transactions in eight bank accounts linked to the accused and his associates.
After hearing the petition, the court approved the request, he added.
Earlier, another Dhaka court imposed a travel ban on Faisal, who is reportedly absconding after fleeing to India through illegal means.
Hadi was critically wounded after being shot in the head in broad daylight in Dhaka’s Paltan area on December 12. He was later airlifted to Singapore for advanced medical treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries on December 18.
Following the shooting, Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inqilab Mancha, filed a case on December 14 on charges of attempted murder. After Hadi’s death, Section 302 (murder) of the Penal Code was subsequently added to the case.
So far, nine individuals have been arrested in connection with the killing.
