EC invites int’l observers, foreign media for polls

The Election Commission (EC) has invited the International election observers or observer organisations and the foreign media intending to observe the upcoming Referendum and 13th parliamentary elections to be held in February 12.

According to a notice signed by its Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed on Thursday, EC has called upon them to apply in line with the clauses 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6 and 3.1 of ‘Guidelines for International Election Observers and Foreign Media 2025,’ by 17th January 2026.
EC said the guidelines and related forms are available in www.ecs.gov.bd.

The notice said that EC is committed to hold free, fair, credible and participatory elections and for ensuring that we keep all activities of the election process open to observations.

“In this context, we expect Election Observers and Media across the world observe the upcoming Referendum and 13th Parliamentary elections along with our local observers at their convenience,’ it added.

With the approach of election, a number of countries and organisations have confirmed sending their representatives to observe the 13th parliamentary poll scheduled on February 12.
EC is expecting that some 200 observers would observe the election.
Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin on December 11 announced the schedule to hold the election and referendum on the same day on February 12.
As per the schedule, the deadline for the submission of nomination paper is December 29, the scrutiny of the paper has been set on December 30 to January 4. The last date for the withdrawal of nominations is January 20.
The election campaign will begin on January 22. The commission has extended the voting time for one hour which will start at 7:30am and continue for 4:30 without any interval.
