Staff Reporter :
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Monday stated that the Awami League (AL), under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, “cannot be allowed” to participate in the national elections scheduled for February 12, 2026.
Shafiqul Alam described Sheikh Hasina as a “heinous criminal” who is allegedly orchestrating terror campaigns against Bangladesh. “The party chief is a death-row convict for crimes against humanity and is currently a fugitive from justice, continuing to incite violent acts targeting the nation,” he told media.
He further emphasized that no democratic country in the world could permit a political party led by an individual accused of such serious crimes to engage in political activities, let alone contest national elections. Consequently, he said, the AL’s political activity remains banned in Bangladesh.
Alam also cited a series of alleged recent misdeeds by Awami League cohorts, claiming that party leaders and activists have been involved in a range of unlawful and destabilizing activities. Among these, he alleged: In recent times, several AL cadres were reportedly involved in recent attacks on opposition rallies and independent candidates, aiming to suppress dissent ahead of the election.
The countrymen frustrated on the fallen AL regime as its officials are accused of misusing state funds, awarding contracts to cronies, and engaging in large-scale corruption schemes that undermine public trust.
The AL’s affiliates have threatened journalists, activists, and civil society members who raised questions about the government’s policies or exposed corruption.
People alleged attempts by AL-backed actors to influence voter lists, intimidate election officials, and manipulate polling logistics to ensure party-favored outcomes.
