Lal Sobuj organises awareness events for clean air
Staff Reporter :
A cultural awareness programme titled “Clean Air, Safe Life” was held at Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka on Friday organised by Lal Sobuj Society in collaboration with Youth for Care, a platform of The Earth.
The events highlighted that Dhaka is currently considered one of the most polluted cities in the world, with air pollution levels rising sharply during the winter season.
This condition is posing serious health risks. While air pollution cannot be completely eliminated, health experts say its harmful effects can be reduced through increased awareness and preventive measures. Against this backdrop, the organisers have arranged the programme to raise public awareness through the cultural activities.
The initiative aims to communicate the harmful impacts of air pollution, methods of prevention, and personal safety measures through simple and engaging cultural expressions.
The programme was featured with drama performances highlighting the effects of air pollution and possible preventive actions, poetry recitations focused on environmental awareness and healthy living, and songs centred on environmental protection and public awareness.
The organisers said these performances will help spread immediate awareness among pedestrians and people in public spaces.
Azizun Nahar Toma, a representative of Lal Sobuj Society, said air pollution in Dhaka has become a major public health concern rather than only an environmental issue. She said that raising awareness, even through small initiatives, can help protect families, children and future generations. She added that the programme aims to deliver the message in a simple and relatable manner and emphasised the importance of active citizen participation in making Dhaka more livable.
The objectives of the programme include raising public awareness, providing guidance on reducing health risks, and delivering simple and instant messages to people in public places.
The organisers expressed hope that the initiative will contribute to encouraging greater public involvement in efforts to combat air pollution in the city.
