Mourning poured in peacekeeper’s house

At least six Bangladeshi peacekeepers have been killed , and eight others were hurt in a terrorist attack on a United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission base in the Abyei area of Sudan.

One of the deceased has been identified as Mohammad Jahangir Alam (30), a resident in Kishoreganj ‘s Pakundia upazila. Mourning is underway at the house of the deceased in the incident.

Jahangir Alam son of Md. Hazrat Ali of Tarakandi Madhyapara village under Jangalia union of Pakundia upazila.

He was working as a mess waiter in the Bangladesh Army. He went to Sudan to participate in a peacekeeping mission on November 7. His personal number is CS-20109.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced the casualties in a text message on Saturday. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Pakundia, Rupam Das confirmed the matter on Sunday.

UNO also said that Bangladesh Army has officially informed the matter and the upazila administration will provide all kinds of assistance to the family of the deceased.

Victim’s Jahangir Alam served in the army for about 11 years. Leaving behind his wife and three-year-old son Irfan, he went to Sudan with responsibilities and dreams.

Wife Rubaiya Akhtar is repeatedly fainting after hearing the news of her husband’s death. Relatives are struggling to cope with her.
