Outsourcing employees of Khulna 250-bed general hospital have formed a human chain expressing their anger and protest over not receiving their salaries for 18 consecutive months.
The human chain was held at 12 noon on Thursday in front of the main gate of the hospital.
A total of 46 outsourcing employees, including 14 people working under the supervisory office and 32 more under the civil surgeon’s office, participated in it.
The banners displayed in the human chain read – “No salary for 17 months! Want salary, not begging”, “Why ignore the High Court’s order?”, “Khulna 250-bed hospital – want answers.”
The speakers in the human chain said that they have not been receiving salaries for about one and a half years, including this December. One office is blaming the other office for the salary issue.
The employees alleged that the hospital’s superintendent Dr. Gazi Rafiqul Islam and the chief assistant cum accountant Tariqul Islam have deliberately not sent the necessary documents to the higher office for the last 6 months. As a result, the process of paying their outstanding salaries has stalled.
The employees further alleged that the hospital authorities are conspiring to call tenders to recruit 107 new people, ignoring the 2025 outsourcing policy and the High Court’s instructions.
They even claimed that 7 people have been secretly hired without any tender. However, according to the instructions of the Ministry of Finance, it is clearly stated that old employees should not be dismissed.
They said that many employees have been serving in this hospital for the last 7-8 years, but there is a sudden attempt to dismiss them in a conspiratorial manner. They are facing a humanitarian crisis along with the families of the employees who have not received their salaries.
Md. Mamun Hossain, Md. Abdur Rahim, Shahnaz, Murshida, Chattar, Masum, Quader, Shahin, Setu, Erashad, Rajesh, Debashish, Alam, Sadhan, Dipankar, Parimal, Nipa, Abdul Halim Khan, Ashiq, Farooq, Jasim and outsourcing employees employed at the hospital were present in the human chain.
