Alibanda eco-tourism centre opens amidst deer release

Bagerhat Correspondent :

Deer have been released into the enclosure for visitors at the eco-tourism center built in Alibanda in Sharankhola Range of the Eastern Division of Sundarbans in Bagerhat district. The forest department has said that the Alibanda Eco-tourism Center has been opened for tourists by releasing the deer.

According to the forest department sources, a beautiful watch tower and a one-kilometer-long concrete foot trail have been constructed at the Alibanda Eco-tourism Center in Sharankhola Range for tourists to see the beauty of the Sundarbans. Due to the lack of deer, the eco-tourism center could not be fully operational until now. On Friday afternoon, 5 magical spotted deer were released into the deer enclosure of the Alibanda Eco-tourism Center.

The news of the deer release has caused a great excitement among the visitors. On the other hand, tourists are being discouraged from going to Alibanda due to the additional revenue of Tk.300 per visitor to visit Alibanda. Tourists have demanded that the forest department should set the revenue at Tk.40 like Karamjal.

Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, DFO (Divisional Forest Officer) of the Eastern Sundarbans told, the eco-tourism center in Alibanda has been fully opened for tourists with the release of the magical spotted deer on Friday.

The DFO added, the forest ministry will be contacted in view of the tourists’ demand for reducing the revenue.
