No dengue deaths, 486 hospitalised

Bangladesh has reported no new dengue-related deaths in the 24 hours between Friday 8 a.m. and Saturday 8 a.m., according to the Health Emergency Operations Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday.

During this period, 486 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country. The DGHS reported that among the newly admitted patients, 110 were from Dhaka North City Corporation, 66 from Dhaka South City Corporation, and 76 from areas of the Dhaka Division outside the two city corporations. Chattogram Division recorded 77 new admissions, while Barishal reported 50, Khulna Division 36, Rajshahi 34, Mymensingh 32, and Rangpur 5 patients.

The health authorities further stated that 581 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals in the same 24-hour period, bringing the total number of recoveries this year to 95,204. According to DGHS data, a total of 97,313 people have been hospitalised with dengue since January, and the disease has claimed 394 lives so far in 2024. Official figures also show that from January to December 2024, hospitals admitted 101,214 dengue patients and recorded 575 deaths, while the previous year, 2023, saw Bangladesh’s worst dengue outbreak on record, with 321,179 hospitalisations and 1,705 deaths nationwide.
