Harmony festival to be held in Srimangal

The Bangladesh Tourism Board and the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism will hold the second 3-day ‘Harmony Festival Season-2’ in the country from December 18-20 to develop the tourism industry in Srimangal, Moulvibazar. The fair will be held at the Phulchhara Tea Garden ground.

In this, in addition to the cultural programs of 44 different local ethnic groups last season, various materials made by them were exhibited.

This time, several more cultural programs of small ethnic groups and various materials made by them may be added to it. Bangladesh Tourism Board, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and SrimangalUpazila Administration have made preparations to make this regionally based ‘Harmony Festival’ fair a success.

This Harmony Festival Season-2 program, a combination of the colorful life and culture of small ethnic groups living in the hills and plains, will run from 11 am to 8 pm from 18 to 20 December.

The Khasia, Garo, Manipuri, Tripura, Sabar, Kharia, Rikiasan, Baraik, Kanda, Rajbalwab, Bhuiyan, Santal, Orao, Gorait, Munda, Kurmi, Bhumij, Bunaraji, Lohar, Ganju, and Kara communities are participating in the festival. Preparations have begun in every area of Srimangal-Kamalganj to showcase their diverse cultural traditions.

Various small ethnic groups will perform cultural programs such as Patra Sawra dance and Chariya dance, Khadi dance of Khasias, Lathi dance of Rikiasanas, Jhumur dance of Baraikas, Kui dance of Kandas, Odia dance of Rajbalvabs, Bhuiyan songs of Bhuiyans, Lagare dance of Santals, Orao dance of Oraos, Gorait dance of Gorait, Mundari dance of Mundas, Kurmali dance of Kurmis, Bhumij dance of Bhumijs, Odia bhajan of Bunarajis, Bhujpuri Ramayana Kirtan of Lohars, Ganju dance of Ganju, Kara dance of Kara, traditional costume of Khasias Dance.

Song with the help of kercha and garlands, bow and arrow competition, Siyat Batu (game with slingshot), KiuTheneng (competition of climbing on oiled bamboo), Katharak dance of Tripura people, Besu dance, Jhum dance, Gary Puja, Kyar Puja, Nok Thapeng Ma Puja, Kadang (Ranpa), Jhum dance of Garo people, Amoidev (Puja), Greek dance (wrestling), Chawari Sikka (selection of son-in-law and daughter-in-law), Chambil dance (monkey dance), Mandi dance, Re Re song, Serenjing (love story song), Raslila dance of Manipuri people, PungChalom dance (Dhol dance), Radhakrishna dance, and Sylhet’s traditional Dhamail dance will be performed.

In addition, live paan processions of the Khasia community, waist looms of Tripura, live looms of Manipur, tea and rubber processing, homestays, live clay items made by potters are other attractions of the festival.

In this regard, SrimangalUpazila Executive Officer Md. Islam Uddin said that all the small ethnic groups living in different hills, plains and plains of SrimangalUpazila were brought to one platform.

This time too, we will bring all the small ethnic groups to one platform, but since last time, several more small ethnic groups have been added.

Last season, through 44 stalls, small ethnic groups displayed and sold their products, food, lifestyle, clothes, etc.

In addition, their culture, dance-songs, religious rituals and rituals were performed by the KrishtiCulture.This time too will be no exception.

He further said that this event will create an important opportunity for the new generation to learn about small ethnic groups.

Such an event can help them gain detailed knowledge about their cultural heritage, history, language, cuisine, clothing, art, festivals and lifestyle.

This can increase mutual respect and compassion among them and play a role in building an inclusive society. That is why we are organizing this event.
