39 Bangladeshis deported from US

Staff Reporter :

At least 39 Bangladeshi nationals deported from the United States landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a special US military flight early Friday.

Brac assisted them with transport and emergency support immediately after arrival.
Of the returnees, 26 are from Noakhali. The others come from Cumilla, Sylhet, Feni, Lakshmipur, Chattogram, Gazipur, Dhaka, Munshiganj and Narsingdi.

This brings the total number of Bangladeshis deported from the US this year to over 220. Another 187 were sent back earlier.

Brac’s Migration Programme says at least 34 of the 39 had travelled legally to Brazil with BMET clearance. From there, they crossed into the US through Mexico.
Two others travelled directly to the US, while three entered via South Africa. All applied to stay, but after completing legal procedures, US authorities ordered their deportation.
Shariful Hasan, Associate Director at Brac, raised questions about the oversight of workers travelling to Brazil.

Talking to media, he pointed out that many spend Tk 30-35 lakh only to end up returning home with nothing. He asked who should be accountable when such journeys collapse.
Returnees and airport officials noted that, unlike earlier groups deported this year, this latest group was not restrained with handcuffs or leg shackles during the flight.

Deportation operations have intensified during Donald Trump’s second term, with undocumented immigrants from multiple countries being removed in phases.

Under US law, deportation may be ordered by courts or through administrative directives.
When asylum bids fail, ICE arranges repatriation, increasingly relying on chartered and military flights as the process speeds up.
Since 2024 to August this year, over 220 Bangladeshis were deported from the US in different times.
