Jamaat, BNP offices vandalised

In Chauddagram, Cumilla, Rajar Bazar Islamic Pathagar in Kalikapur Union and Shaheed Zia Smriti Sangsad office on the banks of Jagannath Dighi were vandalized due to verbal altercation. Ten people from both sides were injured in the incident. BNP and Jamat are blaming each other for the vandalism. Police were at the scene on Monday afternoon, said officer-in-charge of the police station, Mohammad Hilal Uddin Ahmed.

According to eyewitness reports, a BNP supporter named Arab Hossain Raju of Jagannath Union’s Bijoykara Purba Para Prakash Hoillapara posted a controversial post on Facebook and made inflammatory statements and lies at the volunteer party’s workers’ meeting on Sunday afternoon. In the evening, local Jamaat supporters went to the Shaheed Zia Memorial Sangsad on the banks of Jagannathdighi to talk to BNP leaders.

At that time, some people led by Upazila Chhatra Dal Vice-President Saiful Islam Rashed attacked Jamat supporters in a disorderly manner, shouting slogans. At that time, Jamat supporters also attacked BNP supporters, in which 8-10 people from both sides, including Rafiq member and Tapan, were injured. The agitated Jamat supporters attacked the house of BNP worker Arab Hossain Raju. Later, Chhatra Dal leaders and workers led by Upazila Chhatra Dal Secretary Abir Chowdhury hacked Jamat worker Ismail Hossain to death.

Most of the injured have received primary treatment at various hospitals. A group led by Ujirpur Union Volunteer Party leader Khaled Saifullah vandalized the Rajar Bazar Islamic Pathagar in protest of the attack on Jagannath. After receiving the information, a separate team of Chauddagram Police Station visited the scene.
