Fazlur says he will ‘take poison’ if Jamaat wins his seat

Staff Reporter :

BNP candidate Fazlur Rahman has declared that he would “consume poison” if the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate wins the Kishoreganj-4 constituency.

He made the comments on Friday while addressing an election rally covering the areas of Itna, Mithamoin, and Austagram, speaking to party workers at a gathering in Itna Sadar Union.
The freedom fighter said, “Raise your hands if you support the spirit of the Liberation War.”
Almost the entire crowd raised their hands.

He then said, “Now show me if anyone here supports the Razakars.”
When no one responded, he added: “Not a single hand has gone up. Yet they are trying to come to power through this election.”

“If Jamaat wins in Itna, Mithamoin, or Austagram, I will take poison,” he declared.
Fazlur further claimed that Jamaat’s continued existence in Bangladesh has been possible only because of “mercy.”

He said, “They exist due to the mercy of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Ziaur Rahman, and Khaleda Zia.”
He added that Khaleda Zia granted them clemency when they appealed for it in 2001.
“Now they call BNP sycophants, fraudsters, and thieves. Such language is used by none but Jamaat,” he said.

Calling them “hypocritical, dishonest, and ungrateful,” Fazlur alleged that Jamaat turns on those who provide them shelter.

Identifying himself as a candidate engaged in an “ideological war,” he said he seeks votes only from supporters of the Liberation War, BNP, Ziaur Rahman, Khaleda Zia, and Tarique Rahman.
He also made it clear that a voter’s religion is irrelevant to him.
