BD, Oman celebrate five decades of partnership

Business Desk :

Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman, Jamil Haji Ismail Al Balushi, has highlighted the strong bonds between Oman and Bangladesh, noting that around 700,000 Bangladeshis contribute significantly to Oman’s economic development.

Speaking at a reception in Dhaka Sheraton on Thursday to mark Oman’s National Day and the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the ambassador praised long-term LNG supply agreements that have strengthened energy cooperation. He reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s peace, stability, and economic growth.

The milestone celebrates five decades of political, economic, and cultural ties. Bangladesh opened its mission in Oman in 1983 and upgraded it to ambassadorial level in 1995, while Oman established a full embassy in Dhaka in 2012 and appointed its first resident ambassador in 2022.

Reflecting on Oman’s National Day, Ambassador Al Balushi noted the country’s journey since the founding of the Al Bu Said State in 1744 and the Renaissance under late Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
Oman has since achieved economic diversification, financial modernisation, and environmental sustainability, including a net-zero carbon target by 2050.

Professor Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Education Adviser to the interim government, attended as chief guest, along with diplomats, politicians, business leaders, and media representatives.
