Human chain held

On Thursday, a human chain and rally was held at Shibbari intersection in Khulna city to demand the establishment of climate justice, rapid reduction of carbon emissions and ensuring the human rights of climate-vulnerable populations. Climate Justice Forum – Bangladesh (CJF-B) organized the program.
In addition to Khulna, the human chain program was simultaneously held in Noakhali, Barisal and Dhaka at 11 am on the same issue under the initiative of Climate Justice Forum – Bangladesh.
The speakers at the human chain and rally said: Not donations or loans, the victims of climate change want fair compensation.
Climate justice is not a mercy or a grant; it is a question of historical responsibility and rehabilitative justice.
Climate justice, carbon emission reduction and human rights must be ensured.
The wealth that industrialized countries and multinational corporations have accumulated from centuries of colonial exploitation and fossil fuel-dependent development.
However, the countries of the Global South, including Bangladesh, which are now living in a reality of floods, salinity, cyclones, loss of livelihoods and climate-related damage.
Therefore, world leaders must provide climate compensation money. Chaired by the organization’s Divisional Member Secretary SM Ferdous and moderated by OECD Deputy Chief Executive Director Helena Khatun, the following spoke at the event: Kaushik De, General Secretary of Coastal Voice Bangladesh; Rekha Maria Bairagi of Dhrub; Teacher Uttam Kumar Das; Journalist Hedayet Hossain Mollah; Anisur Rahman Kabir of the Journalists Protect Committee; Environmental activist Shankar Dutta; Bahalul Alam, among others.
