Nabanna fish fair held in Joypurhat

On Tuesday , A vibrant fish fair has been set up at Panchshira Bazar in Kalai upazila of Joypurhat, centred around the traditional Nabanna festival. Every year, locals refer to it in different names some call it the ‘Jamai Mela’ but in essence, it is a grand fish fair that draws large crowds.

The fair showcases a wide variety of fish including katla, chitol, silver carp, bighead, and boal, arranged neatly in rows. Fish weighing from 1 kg to as much as 30 kg have been brought to the fair. Many visitors are enjoying the display with enthusiasm-some simply observing, while others are making purchases. A silver carp weighing 35 kg was sold for Tk 42,000, while a 19 kg katla was sold for Tk 25,000. Bighead and silver carp have seen the highest sales, priced between Tk 300 and Tk 600 per kg. Boal and katla are being sold at prices ranging from Tk 400 to Tk 1,300 per kg.People from 25 to 30 surrounding villages including Matrai, Hatiyar, Madabpur, Hatshar, Harenji, Punt, Begungram, and Panchgram have participated in the fair.
