The Chattagram Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad (SCOP) held a torch procession from Nayabazar in Halishahar to BoroPul at 5:30 pm on Saturday to protest against the government’s decision to lease the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) and Laldia char of the Chattagram Port and demand immediate withdrawal of the decision.
The meeting organized on this occasion was presided over by Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal Chattagram Divisional General Secretary and former General Secretary of Port CBA, Kazi Sheikh Nurullah Bahar.
The program was moderated by SCOP Joint Coordinator Rizwanur Rahman Khan.
TUC Chattagram District Committee President and Labor Reform Commission member Tapan Dutta said that Chattagram Port is the lifeblood of Bangladesh’s economy. No kind of petty games will be tolerated with this port.
The port will be run by the working people of the country, including dock workers, C&F workers; not by foreigners.
The government must immediately withdraw the decision to lease NCT and Laldia char.
Otherwise, the entire Bangladesh, including the ports, will be brought to a standstill through a larger program.
At this time, he announced the divisional workers’ convention program at the Chattagram Press Club on November 22.
