4 AL men arrested

Police have arrested four banned Awami League (AL) local leaders including Chhatra League leader in Karimganj town of Kishoreganj on Friday evening.
Awami League activists, supporters held a procession in front of Karimganj police station around 9 pm demanding their release.
Those arrested are Jahangir Alam Siraji, former convener of the Upazila Chhatra League, Rabiul Awal, general secretary of the municipal Awami League, and members Shahjahan and Khairul Islam.
According to police and local sources, after receiving news of their arrest, more than hundred Chhatra League and Awami League leaders and activists marched in front of the police station at around 9 pm demanding their release.
In this situation, while the arrested were being loaded into a prison van, they raised slogans of Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu. The procession later stayed on the bridge in front of the police station for some time.
After a while, some BNP leaders and activists came and started raising slogans in response. Tension arose between the two sides over this. However, no untoward incident occurred as the police took immediate action.
Sub Inspactor (SI) of karimganj Police Station, Rafiqul Islam said that they were arrested based on secret information. There are cases against three of them.
The police had information that they were planning to carry out sabotage activities. Party workers and supporters held a procession in front of the police station demanding their release.
