Khalilur Rahman to attend security conclave in Delhi

Staff Reporter :

National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman is scheduled to attend the 7th security level meeting of the Colombo Security Conclave to be held during 19-20 November in New Delhi.

According to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, he would lead a delegation following the invitation of Ajit Doval, National Security Adviser of India.

Dr Khalilur Rahman who is visiting India is the second high profile person of the Interim government. Earlier Energy Adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan paid a visit to India to take part in India Energy Week in February.

The Conclave is a regional security group comprising India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Mauritius. India is hosting the conference this time in Delhi on November 20.

The security group mainly focuses on five pillars which include maritime safety and security; countering terrorism and radicalization; combating trafficking and transnational organised crime; cyber-security and protection of critical infrastructure; and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

The interim government, however, did not say anything whether there would be any bilateral meeting between Khalilur Rahman and Ajit Doval on the sideline of the security conclave. Yet it is expected that there would be a talks between them.

Since the fall of Sheikh Hasina government in July last year, the bilateral relation between Bangladesh and India has not been running smoothly.

According to CA office, the Interim Government emphasises regional cooperation as a priority and has actively participated in meetings of various regional bodies.

In April this year, Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus was elected Chair of BIMSTEC. He has been working hard to reactivate SAARC.

Khalilur Rahman earlier led Bangladesh delegation to the China-Indian Ocean Region Forum in Kunming, China.

His participation at the Colombo Security Conclave in New Delhi is in continuation of the Interim Government’s efforts to foster mutually beneficial regional cooperation.
