Construction worker lynched

Cumilla Correspondent :

A construction worker named Anwar Hossain Prakash Eman (38) was beaten to death by a drug addict father and son in Chauddagram, Cumilla, for stopping him from consuming drugs.

Later, during the preparation for burial, the police arrived at the police station and recovered the body.

The incident took place in Noapara village of Chauddagram municipality. The deceased Eman is the son of Osman Mia of the same village.

The information was confirmed by the officer-in-charge of the police station Mohammad Hilal Uddin Ahmed on Thursday.

According to local sources, Faruk Mia, son of Mofizur Rahman of Noapara village, had been consuming drugs at home for a long time. Last Tuesday morning, when Faruk consumed drugs in public, Eman stopped him.

Faruk got angry and started beating Eman indiscriminately. His father Mofizur Rahman also joined in at that time.

Later, when local people came forward to hear Eman’s screams, the father and son fled. With the help of locals, the family members rescued Eman and took him to the Chauddagram Upazila Health Complex for primary treatment.

Later, as his condition deteriorated, he was sent to the Cumilla Medical College Hospital.

Eman died while undergoing treatment there on Thursday morning.
Local sources also learned that when the news of Eman’s death spread, influential circles in the village pressured Eman’s family not to file a case in the murder case.

At one point, the influential circles forcibly held a meeting to reconcile Faruk’s family.

Upon receiving the news, the police of Chauddagram police station arrived at the scene, recovered the body and brought it to the police station for an autopsy.

Eman’s nephew Md. Riyad said, “My uncle was a construction worker. On Tuesday, Faruk and his father Mofizur Rahman severely injured Eman’s uncle.

He died on Thursday while undergoing treatment at the Comilla Medical Hospital. I heard that he was killed because he stopped him from consuming drugs.”

Chouddagram Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Hilal Uddin Ahmed said, “The body was recovered after receiving information that a local investigation was underway into the beating and murder of a man named Eman.
