No scope to halt election, peaceful voting assured Shafiqul
Staff Reporter :
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Tuesday said that there is no possibility for any internal or external quarter to obstruct the upcoming national election.
“The people of the country will witness a peaceful, free, fair, and inclusive election.
A festive mood is expected to prevail across the nation centering the polls,” he told reporters after laying the foundation stone of a new building at Kushiara High School in Chauddagram upazila.
Shafiqul Alam said that a few isolated attempts to spread fear among the public through acts of sabotage have been noticed ahead of November 13.
He mentioned that several incidents of arson attacks on vehicles occurred in different parts of the capital, leaving one transport worker dead.
He said law enforcement agencies are investigating each incident with utmost importance, working to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
Terming the recent violence as a conspiracy to undermine the democratic process, Shafiqul said such attempts to instill panic and insecurity among the public are direct assaults on the country’s electoral system.
He reiterated that the government is firmly committed to ensuring peaceful polls and that security forces remain on the highest alert.
Accusing the Awami League of trying to disrupt the election, the press secretary said, “This autocratic party is once again proving its reliance on terrorism by provoking arson attacks across the country.
However, the national election, scheduled for the first half of February, will take place as planned, and no local or foreign force can stop it.”
He further said that despite political differences, all parties are preparing for the polls. “BNP has already nominated candidates in 237 constituencies, and Jamaat-e-Islami is also fielding its own contenders,” he noted.
Shafiqul expressed optimism that, despite disagreements, all parties ultimately want a festive and participatory election.
Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Jamal Hossain, among others, were present at the event.
