Effective initiative by DC to ensure maternal health

In Narayanganj, cesarean operations at the District Mother and Child Welfare Center had come to a halt after the medical diathermy machine broke down.
As a result, incoming patients faced severe difficulties and healthcare services were disrupted.
During a meeting of the Victoria Hospital Management Committee held on Wednesday at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room, Deputy Director Shahidul Islam highlighted the issue.
He stated that, alongside family planning services, the center provides care to around 400 pregnant women each month, conducts about 30 normal deliveries, and performs 4 to 5 cesarean sections.
Recognizing the seriousness of the problem, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah immediately instructed the District Council to provide a diathermy machine as a gift.
Following his directive, on Sunday, DC Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah formally handed over the new machine to the officials of the Mother and Child Welfare Center.
He expressed hope that this initiative would significantly improve maternal and child healthcare services in the district.
“We firmly believe that if a mother’s health is not good, a child’s health cannot be good either,” the DC said.
“That’s why we always give special attention to maternal health and we will continue to do so in the future.”
He urged healthcare workers to show empathy and dedication while serving mothers, many of whom are poor and uneducated, so that their healthcare is never put at risk.
He also announced that, based on the center’s needs, glucometers and blood pressure machines would soon be supplied as well.
Present at the event were Civil Surgeon Dr. A. F. M. Mushiur Rahman; Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Alamgir Hossain; Deputy Director of the Family Planning Department Md. Shahidul Islam; Sadar Family Planning Officer Md. Borhan Uddin; MCHFP Medical Officer Dr. Zafrin Zubaia Suravi; Member Secretary of Narayanganj Metropolitan BNP Adv. Abu Al Yusuf Khan Tipu; and Central Working Council Member of Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana Moinuddin Ahmed, along with officials from the health department and representatives of various government offices.
