THE National University was established in 1992. The law gives importance to advanced education along with college affiliation.

In the interest of advanced education, this university will have excellent library, laboratories for scientific research and other necessary infrastructure. One of the objectives of the institution was to eliminate session jams.

There is terrible session jams. However, the institution has not been able to play a significant role in reducing session congestion. Its only job has been to affiliate colleges.

In the beginning, this university was not allowed to start undergraduate (honors), postgraduate and degree (pass courses) in any college.

Subsequently, undergraduate (honors), postgraduate, and degree (pass course) courses were introduced in large numbers without ensuring adequate facilities due to political considerations.

Various colleges have been affiliated to the National University without checking whether they have qualified teachers and a suitable environment for education.

As a result, the number of university-affiliated colleges and seats increased. Since the university curriculum does not meet the needs of the labor market, many remain unemployed even after completing their studies.

One of the reasons for the vacant seats in the National University is the increase in the number of seats without considering the demand.

In many cases, it has been seen that how many students are interested in enrolling in a particular subject in an institution or department have been opened and seats have been increased without considering whether there is a need for that subject in the labor market.

As a result, even though seats have been increased in many such subjects, there are no students available there.

According to a recent study by the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS), 28.24 percent of graduates from colleges located in different parts of the country under the National University are unemployed.

And the unemployment rate is relatively high among women and rural students. The university authorities need to take steps to address the existing problems.

For this, steps must be taken to temporarily suspend admission or cancel affiliation in colleges that do not have quality and necessary teachers or infrastructure.

In today’s world, the purpose of higher education is not just to obtain a degree, but to prepare the student in such a way that he can directly apply his knowledge in the workplace.

If the curriculum of the National University can be made modern, up-to-date and suitable for the labor market, then students will develop into skilled and capable citizens.

In addition, the university authorities need to take the initiative to resolve session jams.
