Long-term plan taken for sustainable agricultural development: Agriculture Secretary

A long-term plan is being taken for sustainable development of agriculture in Bangladesh till 2050, said Agriculture Ministry Secretary Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian.
At a workshop titled
Transforming Bangladesh Agriculture: Outlook 2050 at a prestigious hotel in Sylhet city on Sunday, he said that the government has taken a long-term plan till 2050 by prioritizing the agricultural sector. For this purpose, a specific plan will be taken by collecting the opinions of stakeholders in the agricultural sector and analyzing all the limitations.
The Agriculture Secretary also said that there is an opportunity to work at different levels in the Sylhet region. There are haors, hills and hills and a large amount of fallow land here. It is possible to increase agricultural production by ensuring effective use of these uncultivated fallow lands.
He emphasized the moderate use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers by farmers and the production of safe food. He also called on everyone to unite and take the country’s agriculture forward in unity, along with increasing inter-ministerial communication.
The workshop titled Transforming Bangladesh Agriculture: Outlook 2050 was presided over by Dr. Md. Mahmudur Rahman, Additional Secretary, PPC Division, Ministry of Agriculture.
Divisional Commissioner (Additional Secretary) Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi of Sylhet, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Sylhet Md. Sarwar Alam also spoke as special guest.
At the beginning of the programme, DAE, Sunamganj Deputy Director, Agronomist Md. Umar Faruk, recited from the Holy Quran. Joint Secretary, PPB Division, Ministry of Agriculture, Kamrul Hasan, delivered the welcome speech.
The keynote speech was presented by Dr. Md. Mahmudur Rahman, Additional Secretary, PPC Division, Ministry of Agriculture.
An article on the agricultural situation and future plans of Sylhet region was presented by Agronomist Dr. Md. Mosharraf Hossain, Additional Director, Sylhet Region, Department of Agricultural Extension.
The workshop was attended by the heads of various departments/organizations and stakeholders including farmers, through group-based and open discussions. Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and various departments under it, farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs, and senior officials of the Sylhet region of DAE were present in the workshop.
