Religion is often exploited during elections : Salahuddin Ahmed

Staff Correspondent :
Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of BNP’s standing committee, said that we notice whenever elections approach, a political party tries to use Islam for political gain, aiming to create divisions within the nation. We must be cautious of those who seek to spread discord and confuse Bangladesh’s Muslims. People may speak for political reasons, and that is acceptable, but no one should be allowed to harm our faith. He made these remarks on Saturday afternoon at the Azmat-e-Sahaba Grand Conference organized by Hefazat-e-Islam at the central Eidgah ground in Narayanganj.

Salahuddin Ahmed added that he does not consider himself qualified to give religious speeches. He came here to listen to the distinguished scholars who are speaking. Those present here are people who do not politicize Islam. They prioritize faith first and worldly matters later. That is why he attended the event. He noted that 92% of Bangladesh’s population is Muslim. “We follow the Islam of Madinah and the teachings of our Prophet (PBUH). We do not follow the Islam of Maududi,” he said. He further stated that the government under Hasina was anti-Islamic and anti-Muslim, and persecuted scholars. “By Allah’s command, we witnessed how their politics came to an end. We should conduct politics in a way that eliminates the unprincipled politics of the Awami League. We will establish principled politics in Bangladesh,” he said. The event was chaired by Mufti Monir Hossain Qasemi, Joint Secretary- General of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, and attended by Hefazat-e-Islam’s Deputy Amir Junayed Al Habib Al, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam’s Joint Secretary-General Manjurul Islam Afendi, Narayanganj district BNP convener Professor Mamun Mahmud, metropolitan BNP convener Sakhawat Hossain Khan, and other leaders of Hefazat-e-Islam and BNP.
