NBR reports 10 Lakh online tax filings in current FY

Business Desk :

More than 10 lakh individual taxpayers have submitted their income tax returns online in the current tax year, marking a major step in Bangladesh’s digital transformation of tax administration, according to the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

The e-return system for the 2025-26 tax year was launched on 4 August 2025 by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed. Taxpayers can file their returns through the dedicated portal www.etaxnbr.gov.bd, said the NBR in a press release on Thursday.

This year, online filing is mandatory for all individual taxpayers, except for senior citizens aged 65 or above, physically challenged or special-needs individuals, Bangladeshis living abroad, legal representatives of deceased taxpayers, and foreign nationals working in Bangladesh. Exempted taxpayers may still file online voluntarily.

Those facing technical issues in e-return registration can apply to their Deputy Commissioners of Taxes by 15 November 2025 for manual submission, subject to approval from the Additional or Joint Commissioner. Authorized representatives can also file on behalf of taxpayers.

Non-resident Bangladeshis can register and file online by sending their passport number, NID, and contact details to [email protected], after which they receive a secure registration link and OTP.

To support users, NBR has provided extensive training for taxpayers and authorized representatives, including lawyers, chartered accountants, cost and management accountants, and chartered secretaries. A dedicated call centre (09643 71 71 71), online help, and help desks across all tax zones are also available for assistance.
