Man shot in Kishoreganj

A man was shot in the forehead for protesting against bird hunting in Karimganj Upazila, Kishoreganj. The incident occurred on Tuesday noon at Dakshin Nanshri village.
The victim, Mazharul Islam, 35, son of Mizanur Rahman of Danapatuli, Kishoreganj Sadar, was admitted to the surgery ward of Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital (SSNIMCH) on Wednesday morning around 11 am. He is out of danger, said SSNIMCH Deputy Director Dr Saiful Islam. Mazharul works in a company job in Dhaka.
Mazharul said that on Tuesday, three young men from Dakshin Nanshri village came to their village on a motorcycle with air guns.
A local cemetery in the village is home to various species of birds. When the three men tried to hunt these birds, Mazharul’s uncle Harun or Rashid and others intervened.
At one point, one of the three fired three blank shots with an air gun. Hearing the gunshots, Mazharul came out of the house to protest, and the men then shot him in the forehead before quickly fleeing on a motorcycle.
Officer-in-Charge of Kishoreganj Model Police Station, Abdullah Al Mamun, said that police visited the hospital at night after receiving information.
“No one has filed a complaint with the police station regarding this incident as of this afternoon. Legal action will be taken if a complaint is lodged,” he added.
