Germany supports for resolving Rohingya crisis

Germany has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to stand beside Bangladesh and the international community in finding lasting and sustainable solutions to the Rohingya crisis.
“The Rohingya people deserve the opportunity to return home voluntarily, safely, and with dignity – but lasting peace and stability in Myanmar are essential for that to happen.
Until then, we will continue to stand by Bangladesh and all those working to support both refugees and host communities,” said Johann Saathoff, Parliamentary State Secretary to the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), in a statement issued on Wednesday. Saathoff visited Bangladesh from 27 to 28 October to deepen bilateral ties and reaffirm Germany’s long-standing partnership in supporting the country’s development and humanitarian priorities.
During the visit, he met senior government officials including Md Shahriar Kader Siddiky, Secretary of the Economic Relations Division under the Ministry of Finance, as well as representatives from the United Nations.
, international development partners, and civil society organisations.
Discussions focused on shared priorities such as sustainable development, economic growth, and the ongoing humanitarian situation in Cox’s Bazar.
Accompanied by German Ambassador Dr Rüdiger Lotz and a delegation from BMZ, Saathoff travelled to Cox’s Bazar, where he met representatives of UNICEF and local partners to observe ongoing initiatives aimed at supporting Rohingya refugees and host communities.
The visit underscored Germany’s continued solidarity with Bangladesh in addressing complex development and humanitarian challenges, including those stemming from the protracted Rohingya crisis.
Germany remains one of Bangladesh’s key partners in development cooperation, focusing on climate and energy, good governance, and sustainable economic growth, the German Embassy in Dhaka said.
