The Election Commission (EC) has finalised a total of 42,761 polling centers across the country for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, according to Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed of the EC Secretariat.
Speaking to reporters at his office in the Election Bhaban, Agargaon, Dhaka, on Monday, Akhtar Ahmed said, “A total of 42,761 polling centers have been designated nationwide.
These centers will contain 244,649 polling booths in total — 115,137 for male voters and 129,602 for female voters.”
The EC Senior Secretary also mentioned that the registration process for new political parties and domestic election observation organizations is expected to be completed within this week.
Regarding the National Congress Party (NCP) symbol issue, Akhtar Ahmed clarified that the ‘Shapla’ (water lily) symbol cannot be allocated to the party as it is not included in the existing electoral symbol regulations.
“The Election Commission will issue a public notification with an alternative symbol at its discretion,” he added.
When asked about the possibility of a referendum, Akhtar Ahmed said that no official information or proposal regarding such a move has yet been received by the Commission.
The announcement marks a significant milestone in the EC’s election roadmap, ensuring administrative readiness for the nationwide polls.
