DU’s Pro-VC returned from China

Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) of Dhaka University, returned to the country on Saturday, October 24, 2025, after a 15-day official visit to China.
Invited by the President of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), he participated in the fellowship program titled ‘Higher Education and Public Health Sector: Lessons from China’ organized by SIIS.
During his visit, Professor Ahmed held separate meetings with prominent officials including Chen Dongxiao, President of SIIS, senior authorities from China International Communications Group (CICG), the Vice President of the Academic of Contemporary China and World Studies (ACCWS), and the senior leaders of Tongji University.
The discussions focused on enhancing collaborative education and research programmes between Dhaka University and various Chinese institutions.
Key topics included joint initiatives in education and research, language and cultural exchange, faculty and student mobility, and sharing of knowledge and expertise.
A significant agenda item was the proposal to organize an international seminar on artificial intelligence supported by Chinese partners at Dhaka University.
Additionally, plans were discussed for establishing an Oceanography Research Centre at the university.
During his visit, the Pro-Vice Chancellor also gave an interview to China Central Television (CCTV) covering developments in education and research.
The visit is expected to strengthen bilateral academic ties and promote joint efforts in cutting-edge research and higher education development.;
