Foreign travel ban for accused in Salman murder case
Staff Reporter:
Nearly 29 years after the tragic death of iconic film actor Salman Shah, a murder case has finally been filed against his former wife Samira Haque and 10 others. To prevent the accused from leaving the country, police have sent their details to the immigration authorities.
Confirming the development to reporters on Saturday (October 25), Ramna Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Faruk said, “The murder case has been filed following a court directive. A total of 11 named and several unidentified persons have been made accused. The investigation has already begun.”
The OC added that law enforcement agencies are tracing the whereabouts of the 11 accused, some of whom may currently be outside Bangladesh.
“We are using technology, including mobile tracking, to identify and locate the accused who are in the country. Their information has been forwarded to the immigration authorities to ensure they cannot leave Bangladesh,” he said.
OC Faruk also emphasised that there is no external pressure influencing the investigation and that the police are committed to bringing the accused to justice soon.
The case was filed in the early hours of October 21 at Ramna Police Station by Alamgir Kumkum, the maternal uncle of Salman Shah. Among the accused named in the case are Samira Haque, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Latifa Haque Lucy, and film actor Don, along with several others.
In total, 11 individuals have been specifically named, while a few unidentified persons have also been mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR).
Salman Shah was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his Eskaton residence in Dhaka on September 6, 1996. What initially appeared as a case of unnatural death has since been mired in controversy and public speculation.
The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), in its final report, had concluded that Salman Shah had committed suicide.
However, Salman’s mother, Neela Chowdhury, has rejected the PBI’s findings from the very beginning, maintaining that her son was murdered.
Her long-standing demand for justice and a proper investigation into the actor’s mysterious death has finally culminated in this murder case—nearly three decades later. Salman Shah, one of the most beloved stars in Bangladesh’s film history, continues to live on in the hearts of millions of fans who await the truth behind his untimely death.
