An old video of Bollywood’s renowned lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar has gone viral on social media. There
is a huge debate about it. In that video, he can be heard saying to Hindus, “Don’t be like Muslims.” Renowned singer Lucky Ali has strongly criticised Javed Akhtar for this comment.
However, Lucky Ali, commenting on an ‘X’ post that shared the video, wrote, “Don’t be like Javed Akhtar, he is never original (in the creative sense) and is disgustingly ugly…!”
In the viral video clip, Javed Akhtar can be heard talking about freedom of speech and the state of democracy in India today. He made his comments while referencing a scene from the 1975 classic film ‘Sholay’.
In the video, Javed Akhtar says, “There was a scene in ‘Sholay’ where Dharmendra talks behind a Shiva idol, and Hema Malini thinks Shivaji is talking to him. Is it possible to make such a scene today? No, I will not write such a scene (today). Were there no Hindus in 1975? Were there no religious people? There were. Raju Hirani and I said in front of a large audience in Pune, ‘You don’t become like Muslims. Make them like you. You are becoming like Muslims.’ This is a tragedy!”
Lucky Ali made the scathing remark on social media in direct response to Javed’s comment.
Singer Lucky Ali claims to be a devout Muslim. He has faced controversy in the past over his religious beliefs and personal ideas. However, he later deleted the post and expressed his regret to his ‘Hindu brothers and sisters’, saying that his intention was not to ‘hurt or offend’ anyone.
Javed Akhtar has repeatedly criticised influential figures for their communal and hateful comments on social media, drawing criticism and protests.
He said, “Some call me a ‘jihadi’ and tell me to go to Pakistan. Others say I’m an ‘infidel’ and I will definitely go to hell, so I have no right to the name Muslim.”
