CA hopes MPO-listed teachers will return to classrooms
Staff Reporter :
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday expressed hope that the agitating teachers under the MPO scheme would soon return to classrooms with renewed enthusiasm and continue contributing to building the nation’s future generations, as the government has already approved an increase in their house rent allowance.
According to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, the interim government has decided to raise the house rent allowance for MPO-listed teachers and
employees of private educational institutions by 7.5 percent of their basic salary, effective from November 1 this year.
Another 7.5 percent increment will take effect in July 2026.
“The interim government considers the demands of teachers and employees of MPO-listed private institutions to be just and reasonable,” Professor Yunus said.
However, he noted that the country’s fragile economic condition – the outcome of 15 years of widespread corruption and plundering – still limits the government’s capacity to implement a 20 percent increase at once.
“Therefore, the government has had to make this decision in line with existing realities,” he explained.
Before finalizing the decision, the Chief Adviser held several meetings over the past few days with relevant advisers to discuss the concerns of MPO-listed teachers and employees, the press wing added.
Among those who took part in the discussions were Education Adviser Professor Dr. CR Abrar, Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, and Planning Adviser Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud.
Professor Yunus extended special appreciation to Education Adviser Professor Dr. CR Abrar and others involved in the process for their dedicated efforts in addressing the matter.
