Allegation of land grabbing using ex-MP’s family identity

An allegation has been raised regarding the illegal occupation and construction of a building on five decimals of land under RS Dag No. 31 of Jirabo Mouza in Ashulia Police Station of Dhaka district. The land reportedly belongs to former Union Parishad (UP) member Mohammad Ali by inheritance.

According to the complaint, the construction was carried out by Motiur Rahman and Mosammat Kamrunnahar, who allegedly identified themselves as relatives of former MP Dewan Mohammad Salauddin Babu. It is known that Motiur Rahman is a relative of Dr. Dewan Mohammad Salauddin Babu, former MP of Dhaka-19, while Mosammat Kamrunnahar is his aunt.

The complaint further states that Motiur Rahman, son of late Manik Mia (62), and Kamrunnahar, widow of late Abdul Mannan (65), along with 7-8 unidentified persons, forcibly occupied the inherited land of Mohammad Ali, son of Tamiz Uddin, a former UP member of Jirabo area, and began constructing a market. In response, Mohammad Ali filed a written complaint with Ashulia Police Station on September 29, accusing them of land grabbing, threats, and intimidation.

In addition, Mohammad Ali alleged that his brother Abdul Hai, who identifies as an Awami League supporter and currently serves as the president of the BNP-backed Earpur Union unit, has been occupying 28 decimals of land from RS Dag Nos. 27 and 30 of the same mouza by force.
During an inquiry, it was learned that Mohammad Ali, a known BNP supporter, had been a dedicated activist during the tenure of BNP’s former MP Salauddin Babu and had suffered imprisonment, torture, and political harassment under the former autocratic regime. He also mentioned facing several politically motivated cases filed from Ashulia Police Station over the years.
Mohammad Ali claimed that even under the current interim government, he is being deprived of his legal rights due to political revenge by Awami League supporters. He alleged that a vested group is conspiring against him and lamented that despite being a long-time political worker, he continues to face harassment from the fallen party supporters.
He urged the local administration and public representatives to intervene immediately and stop the ongoing illegal construction on his land.
In response, the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector (SI) Saiful Islam, told this correspondent that both parties have been summoned to the police station with their ownership documents and that instructions have been given to halt all construction work on the disputed land.
When contacted, accused Motiur Rahman said, “The police have not informed me of any such matter. However, Madam Kamrunnahar summoned Mohammad Ali, but he failed to show any valid documents.”
Attempts to reach former MP Dr. Dewan Mohammad Salauddin Babu for his comment were unsuccessful, as he did not answer repeated phone calls.
