‘3-power seeking dominance in BD’
Staff Reporter :
BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has cautioned that two regional powers and one global power are attempting to assert dominance in South Asia, posing a serious threat to Bangladesh’s national interests.
Speaking at a discussion commemorating slain BUET student Abrar Fahad on Tuesday, Salahuddin urged citizens from all walks of life – irrespective of political affiliation – to unite under a common national policy to safeguard sovereignty and counter external interference.
The discussion, titled “From Expression to Death: Spread and Resistance of Fascism in Educational Institutions,” was organised by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the BNP, at Dhaka University’s TSC auditorium.
Reflecting on Abrar Fahad’s killing, Salahuddin said, “That tragedy deeply moved me during my exile. I realised then that a large section of our youth is ready to stand up for Bangladesh’s interests.
The fire of patriotism and resistance still burns brightly among the young generation. Their voices on social media embody a new awakening – and even if lives are taken, the spirit of Abrar will rise again.”
He underscored the importance of examining such incidents through historical and theoretical lenses, rather than merely labeling them as acts of regional aggression or dominance.
“The July Uprising was built upon the sacrifices of martyrs like Abrar Fahad,” Salahuddin continued. “The blood of our youth paved the way for that mass movement – from Shapla Chattar to countless acts of student bravery.”
Addressing the roots of political decay, he called for eliminating the “toxic culture in politics” by nurturing principled, ideological, and democratic practices.
“We cannot defeat fascism with slogans or shallow street politics,” Salahuddin asserted. “To eradicate it, we must strike at its roots – by offering the people good, value-based politics and consistently upholding a democratic culture.”
He urged Chhatra Dal members to remain steadfast in promoting constructive, issue-based politics as the true path to combating fascism and protecting Bangladesh’s sovereignty.
