‘Jamaat not in favour of dividing nation based on religion’

Staff Reporter :

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has said Jamaat is not in favor of dividing the nation based on religion.
The Jamaat leader said, “According to the latest census, 90.8 percent of the people in the country are Muslims. The rest are Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians. But we are not in favor of dividing the nation based on religion. We want to see a united nation.”
He said this on Saturday while addressing as the chief guest at a “Daee and Waez Conference” organized by the party’s central Ulama Committee at Al-Falah Auditorium in the capital’s Moghbazar.

Shafiqur Rahman remarked that there are different religions and ideologies before the people. People will adopt religion based on their own judgment and conscience, he said. At this point, the responsibility of the daees (preachers) is to call people to follow Allah’s eternal laws in the Qur’an and the actions and mission of the Prophet (PBUH).

He said that when a nation falls into crisis, scholars and educated individuals must show the way. They will be the leaders of the nation. Even after so many years of independence, a humane, responsible, and beautiful society has not been established in the country. Therefore, the nation is in crisis. If the ulama guide the nation in the light of the Holy Qur’an and Sunnah, the nation will benefit. The nation also expects this from them.
The Jamaat Ameer further remarked that the ulama should not only be the imams of mosques but also the imams of the nation. He said, “I have no hesitation in saying this: not all of the educated class, but a section of them have caused such harm to the nation that millions of ordinary people together could not do. They don’t have that capacity. The way the fate of a nation can collapse with the stroke of a pen, millions of people together could not inflict such damage. In this regard too, the ulama have a special responsibility to awaken and alert the nation.”
Jamaat finalizes election candidates, begins preparations at constituency level – who are in discussion?
The conference was presided over by Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General and President of the Central Ulama Division Committee Abdul Halim. Present were Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar, Assistant Secretary General Rafiqul Islam Khan, Head of the Media and Publicity Division Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, among others.
