SMP launches ‘GenieA App’ for Sylhet residents’ safety

Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) has launched a technology-based mobile app called ‘GenieA’ to control the law and order situation in Sylhet and provide quick citizen assistance.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Commissioner Abdul Kuddus Chowdhury, PPM, inaugurated the citizen-friendly app at his office on Wednesday (October 1) afternoon.
The commissioner said that through this app, citizens will easily get police assistance and will be able to connect directly with various emergency services.
The commissioner said that the app will start operating at Moglabazar Police Station in Sylhet from October 16 and will be launched in all police stations in Sylhet city within a month. The app will provide an opportunity for users to easily communicate with the police, especially by using the SOS button, police assistance can be obtained in any danger. With one click, a notification will be sent to the concerned police station and the police will reach the spot.
The Police Commissioner said, the pattern of crime has changed with time. Therefore, we have launched GenieA – an app to provide quick assistance to citizens, which will act as a bridge of trust between the police and the common man.
He said, through this app, there will be various facilities including a special help desk for women and children, ensuring the safety of expatriate families, and easy reporting facilities.
Stating that the police force of the country, including Sylhet, will one day be like the London Police, the new Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP), Abdul Kuddus Chowdhury (PPM-Service), said, “I always dream of this. Police services will be ensured through the use of new technology. One example of this is the GenieA app launched in Sylhet.
The Commissioner further said, the GenieA app will be available on the Play Store and the I Store and it will become a powerful security tool for all citizens of Sylhet. Various emergency services including GD, cases, information provision, legal advice will be available through the app. In addition, information related to fire service, ambulance service and traffic congestion will be provided.
Another important step in modernizing Sylhet’s security system is the development of the city’s CCTV monitoring system. The commissioner said that the entire city will be covered by CCTV cameras and monitored through AI-based analysis. As a result, there will be police surveillance in every corner of the city, especially in ensuring the safety of school-going students.
The commissioner also said that mobile theft is currently a big problem, but efforts are being made to increase the capacity of the police and encourage citizens to report criminals. Commissioner Abdul Quddus Chowdhury said, “We are working on behavioral changes in the police.
In addition, the campaign against battery-powered autorickshaws is ongoing, he said, although the campaign has not been conducted at the specified time and place as before for the last 3 days, the campaign is going on at different places after the evening.
Speaking on this, Police Commissioner Abdul Quddus Chowdhury said, “This new horizon of Sylhet’s security system will bring a new light of hope for the citizens, which is seen as a big step in curbing crime in the society and ensuring the safety of the people.
