Religious Affairs Adviser A. M. M. Khalid Hossain has described as indecent and condemnable the act of distorting the image of Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser of the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, and presenting him in the form of a demon at a Durga Puja pavilion in India.
He made this remark on Wednesday while responding to questions from journalists after attending a seminar titled “The Role of Madrasa Students in Nation-Building” at Kachait Islamia Dakhil Madrasa in Sadar upazila of Brahmanbaria.
At the time, the Religious Affairs Adviser said:
“Political differences or debates may exist among people. But distorting the image of a head of government of one country and presenting him as a demon in another country is extremely indecent and disrespectful. We condemn this.”
He added:
“Those who have done this have not done well. It undermines the respect of one human being for another. At present, the Chief Adviser and the Foreign Affairs Adviser are abroad. Once they return, they will look into who was behind this and take whatever steps are necessary.”
He further said:
“In Bangladesh, Hindus are celebrating their biggest religious festival, Durga Puja, with great enthusiasm and religious solemnity. So far, no untoward incident has been reported.
The government has taken maximum security measures centering this festival.”
The seminar was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Didarul Alam. Special guests included Islamic University (IU) Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Naqeeb Muhammad Nasrullah, Kachait Islamia Dakhil Madrasa President Mohammad Amir Hamza Bhuiyan, and district Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Mobarak Hossain, among others.
