Celebs’ news: Model Meghna Alam didn’t get her passport back

Model Meghna Alam’s passport was seized in a fraud and extortion case filed at the capital’s Dhanmondi Police Station.
However, her application to return the passport has been rejected. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam rejected the application on Tuesday.
However, no order was made to return the MacBook, two mobile phones and laptop seized during Meghna Alam’s arrest as the investigation officer did not submit a report.
On June 22, Meghna Alam applied for custody of the MacBook, passport, mobile phone and laptop seized from her.
After hearing the application on July 29, the court ordered the investigation officer to investigate whether the mobile phone and laptop contained any anti-state material.
On Tuesday, Meghna’s lawyers Mohsin Reza and Mahima Badhon heard the petition to return Meghna’s MacBook, laptop, mobile phone and passport.
The court rejected the petition to return the passport and said it will pass an order after submitting an investigation report on the laptop and mobile.
Meghna’s lawyer Mohsin Reza confirmed that the application to return the passport has been rejected. Meghna Alam was present in the court during the hearing.
On April 28, Meghna Alam’s 30-day detention order was canceled. The court granted her bail. She was released on the same day. She has been on bail since then.
Meghna Alam was arrested from her home on April 9. The next day, on April 10, model Meghna was sent to prison with a 30-day detention order under the Special Powers Act.
On April 17, Meghna was produced in court from prison and ordered to be arrested in a Dhanmondi police station case of extortion and fraud.
On April 15, Dhanmondi Police Station Inspector Mohammad Abdul Alim filed the case alleging that Meghna Alam and her close associate Dewan Sameer and two or three other foreign ambassadors planned to extort Tk 5 million by trapping them in love.
The case file states that the accused are active members of an organised fraud ring. They used beautiful women to lure foreign diplomats and wealthy businessmen into love affairs, establish illicit relationships, and extort money through blackmail.
The complaint states that they met at a Japanese restaurant in Dhanmondi on March 29 to plan to extort Tk 5 million from a diplomat.
After the hearing, Meghna Alam told reporters, “I have asked for my MacBook, passport, mobile set and laptop back. The court has ordered an investigation. The hearing will be held again on August 31.”
