In Mirpur Section 12 of the capital, a young man named Rifat Khan (21) was killed after being stabbed by miscreants in front of his father. The incident took place around 1:45 pm on Monday on Road No. 9, Block C, in front of the old Pallabi police station.
Severely injured, locals rescued Rifat and first took him to Islamiya Hospital. From there, around 3:45 pm, he was shifted to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead.
Rifat’s father, Sagar Khan, told media that Rifat had quit his garments job some days ago and had been unemployed. He was supposed to start a new job next month. At noon, he left home for Shewrapara to collect some dues. On the way, near the old Pallabi police station, five to seven young men intercepted him and started beating him. At that moment, Rifat phoned his father to inform him about the incident.
Sagar Khan further said that when he arrived at the spot, another four young men came on two motorcycles. The assailants then said that they had “unfinished business” with Rifat. Immediately, they stabbed Rifat in the chest. When Sagar tried to stop them, they stabbed him from behind as well, leaving him slightly injured. He said he did not know why his son was murdered.
Inspector Md. Faruk of Dhaka Medical Police Outpost said that Rifat’s body has been kept in the morgue. The matter has been reported to the relevant police station. Rifat was a resident of Uttar Saldar village in Naria Upazila of Shariatpur district. He lived with his family in a rented house on Road No. 25, Block D, Section 12 of Mirpur.
