DUCSU polls: Complaints of anomalies marred DU’s reputation

‘Sada Dol’, the organization of Dhaka University teachers who supports issued a statement On Friday expressing deep concern over the allegations of unprecedented fraud and irregularities in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections held on 9 September 2025.
Sada dol convener Professor Dr. Morshed Hasan Khan, joint convener Professor Dr. Abdus Salam and Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Sarkar said in a statement that the information and evidence of widespread irregularities and rigging in the DUCSU elections presented in the investigative report recently broadcast by the country’s private television channel ‘News 24’ undoubtedly demands investigation because the horrific picture that emerged in that report has seriously damaged the democratic values and reputation of a traditional institution like Dhaka University and so  this allegation of serious irregularities in the DUCSU elections has seriously questioned the glorious tradition of DU and the prestigious position of the university as a center for the practice of free thought.

 The leaders of the Sada Dol said that the DU administration must immediately give a clear explanation on the cases where allegations of rigging have been raised in the DUCSU election and It is entirely the responsibility of the university administration to prove the allegations wrong.

The statement said, “If necessary, an impartial investigation committee should be formed with members nominated from the university or outside the university and the committee’s report should be published as soon as possible. If the committee’s report proves rigging and fraud in the elections, the people involved should be identified and exemplary punishment should be given to them.”

The  statement also said that not only that, if the allegations are proven true, the election results should be postponed and a free, fair and impartial election should be organized again. Otherwise, the legitimacy of this election will be questioned. Therefore, the DU White Party believes that just as the people’s democratic rights were undermined through the illegal elections held during the fascism era, if proper action is not taken through an impartial investigation, the 2025 DUCSU election will also go down in history as a farcical and disgraceful election of taking away the voting rights of DU students.
