Former state minister for home affairs Sohel Taj was stopped at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while on his way to the United States.

On Friday, Tajuddin Ahmad’s daughter and Sohel Taj’s sister, Mahjabin Ahmad Mimi, confirmed the matter to the media.

She said, “Sohel Taj’s foreign travel has been obstructed.” When asked when the incident occurred, Mimi replied, “It probably happened on Wednesday.”

Meanwhile, the SS (Immigration) authorities at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport confirmed that due to a “travel restriction,” Sohel Taj was unable to leave the country.
During the Awami League government, Sohel Taj was elected as a Member of Parliament from Gazipur-4 (Kapasia) in the 2001 election.

In 2008, he was re-elected from the same constituency. On January 6, 2009, he was appointed as the state minister for home affairs in the Awami League-led cabinet. On May 31 of the same year, he resigned from the cabinet citing “personal reasons.” Later, on April 23, 2012, Sohel Taj also resigned from his position as a Member of Parliament.
